Pointing to statistics that show young members of the LGBTQ community have higher rates of suicide, Richmond resident Cesar Zepeda, an activist who has run for that city’s council and co-founded Richmond Rainbow Pride, said signs of support for LGBTQ pride - such as a rainbow pride flag flying on city property - can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. “This is an issue about turning a house into a home,” said one Walnut Creek resident.
